Perching Female Nude Drawing
Perching Female Nude Drawing is a nude figure drawing I did of a tall woman perching on the edge of her seat. This nude sketch I did from a life drawing model in 30 minutes with pencil on textured A3 Fabriano paper.
This seated pose shows off the woman’s long and beautiful legs. Her womanly soft breasts and stomach sink as she slumps during her pose. Her elegant and long neck holds up her head while the rest her body relaxes. The woman’s long hair is tied in a bun and she looks at the floor, thinking.
I was most interested in the balancing of vertical forces in this nude pose. I liked the sense of her body being perched on the edge of her seat and feeling the pull of gravity downwards. While at the same time, she maintains her balance and keeps her head held lightly aloft.
I also only had 30 minutes to sketch this nude pose, so I focused on the details of her face, and tried to keep the drawing more loose and gestural, so as not to make it overly stiff.
This original life drawing/figure drawing was done from observation with a live model during a timed session.
By setting a time limit, and drawing exclusively from life, the artist is forced to reveal their thoughts, mistakes, their personality, their searching for expression, their recognition and understanding of forms, and their connection with the medium and the model.
In much the same way as one discloses oneself through their handwriting, so an artist reveals their inner life through their lines.
