Description

Lilith of the Shadow Wood (Contemporary Figurative Painting)
This contemporary figurative painting of Lilith began with many dreams that I’d had of Lilith and serpents swimming in dark water. Perhaps it was my anima that was trying to get my attention regarding how I relate to the world.
I dream of snakes in dark water quite often. It seems to be a recurring theme. And perhaps it represents the deeper unconscious.
I used only my own hand-made pigments for this figurative painting and based the painting off I sketch I had done of Lilith in my sketchbook, drawn completely from imagination.
The owl is a creature of the night, often associated with Lilith, and again, represents the unconscious, the night and darkness, the mystical, and wisdom.
