Male Nude Lying on Back (Figurative Nude Painting)

 

I started this male nude painting on a small grey-toned canvas panel in life drawing class, painting directly from a live model.

I worked alla prima or wet in wet, completing most of the painting in one sitting. This was a loose oil painting style, reminiscent of quick impressionist painting where I wanted the lines to be softened by rapid brushstrokes and the lighting to be clearly ‘readable’.
